   Melvin John Reno, 77
   
   Melvin John Reno, 77, of Charlevoix and formerly of Warren and Mount
   Clemens, passed away in the care of his stepdaughter and her husband,
   Linda and Richard Webster, on Feb. 28, 1999. He had also been under
   the care of Charlevoix County Hospice for the last two weeks.
   
   Melvin was born April 26, 1921, in Mount Clemens.
   
   He worked as a mechanic for years and retired from Hollenbeck
   Distributors of Mount Clemens in the early 1980s. He then moved to
   Charlevoix with his wife, Mildred Millie Sharow, where they made their
   home. She preceded him in death on Jan. 11, 1987.
   
   Upon moving to Charlevoix, Melvin worked for several years at Parks
   Auto Parts in Charlevoix.
   
   He is survived by his stepdaughter, Linda Webster, and her husband,
   Richard, of Charlevoix; stepson, James E. Butch Frye and his wife,
   Beverly, of East Jordan; brother-in-law, Robert Bob Sharow and his
   wife, Ida; eight stepgrandchildren, James L. (Linda) Russell, Gerald
   J. (Glenda) Russell Jr., Cathy S. Russell, Jack M. (Annie) Russell
   Sr., all of Charlevoix, Randall Russell and friend, Teri Howard, of
   Ellsworth, Ed (Jan) Frye of Charlevoix, Doug (Becky) Frye and Gary
   (Lily) Frye, all of East Jordan; eight stepgreat-grandchildren, Jamie
   Lynn Webster and friend, Steve Kenifeck, of Central Lake, Gerald R.
   Lent of Boyne City, Riki M. Lent, Lisa M. Russell, Jack M. Russell
   Jr., Courtney S. Russell, Cory J. Russell and Christina M. Russell,
   all of Charlevoix; two cousins, Norman and Barney Peliteire, of Mount
   Clemens; nephews, Joe and Jerry, of Mount Clemens; several stepnephews
   and stepnieces; and lots of good friends.
   
   Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and a
   brother.
   
   In lieu of flowers, the family asks memorial donations be made to
   Charlevoix County Hospice.
   
   Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, March 4, at Winchester
   Funeral Home, Charlevoix.
 

   Benny Pienta, 86
   
   Benny Pienta, 86, of East Jordan, died Thursday, Feb. 25, 1999, in San
   Antonio, Texas.
   
   Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 3, at St. Joseph
   Catholic Church in East Jordan The Rev. Francis Partridge will
   officiate. Interment will be in St. Joseph Calvary Cemetery, East
   Jordan.
   
   Benny was born in Poland on Aug. 21, 1912, the son of Walter and Anna
   (Bulawa) Pienta. He moved with his family to the United States of
   America in 1914. He grew up in Taylor, Mich.
   
   Benny served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
   
   On Jan. 19, 1942, he married Marion York in Taylor.
   
   Benny worked as an inspector for Great Lake Steel Mill in Ecorse,
   Mich. In 1969, they moved to East Jordan. Marion died on May 22, 1987.
   
   Benny was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion
   in Taylor. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in East
   Jordan. He enjoyed gardening, especially onions.
   
   Survivors include one daughter-in-law, Joyce Brooks, of East Jordan;
   two granddaughters, Heidi A. (Patrick) Spain of San Antonio, Texas,
   and Monica L. (Tony) Foor of Yuma, Ariz.; four great-grandchildren;
   and numerous nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his
   parents; one son, Benjamin F. Pienta, in 1968; and five brothers, Leo,
   John, Jim, Joe and Edward Pienta.
   
   The family will receive friends from 2-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. today,
   Tuesday, March 2, at the Paullin-Penzien Funeral Home in East Jordan.
   A rosary will be held at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
   
   Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
