Grace Sobonya was born Sept. 26, 2000, at Northern Michigan Hospital.
Her parents are Jeffery and Belinda Sobonya of Harbor Springs.

Dennis R. Stabnau, 59
Dennis R. Stabnau, 59, of Central Lake, died Sept. 26, 2000, at Meadow
Brook Medical Care Facility in Bellaire.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, at the Central Lake
Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes, where the family will receive friends
from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 29.
Rufus T. "Bill" Kiessel, 89
Rufus T. "Bill" Kiessel, 89, of Central Lake, died Sept. 27, 2000, at
Charlevoix Area Hospital.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 29, at St. Luke Catholic
Church in Bellaire.
The family will receive friends from 6-9 p.m. today, Thursday, Sept.
28, at the Central Lake Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.
Robert Louis Vanniman, 87
Robert Louis Vanniman, 87, of Central Lake Township, died Wednesday,
Sept. 27, 2000, at Meadowbrook Medical Care Facility in Bellaire.
He was born July 25, 1913, in Mancelona, the son of Allison and
Rachel (Hood) Vanniman.
On Dec. 21, 1940, he married Lois Finch at Central Lake. They owned
and operated a farm in Banks Township until 1976, when they moved to
Central Lake Township.
Mr. Vanniman was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S.
Army in Okinawa.
He enjoyed farming, deer hunting and going for coffee in Central Lake.
Surviving are his wife, Lois; children, Alan (Gladys) Vanniman, Laura
(Larry) Essenberg, Jack (Sonia) Vanniman, all of Ellsworth, and Cindy
(Don) Samson of Williamsburg; nine grandchildren; eight great-grand-
children; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by
his parents and all his sisters and brothers.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, at the Ellsworth
Wesleyan Church with the Rev. Chris Wallace officiating. Burial will
be in Ellsworth Cemetery.
Friends may call from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 29, at
Hastings Funeral Home in Ellsworth.
Memorial contributions may be made to Meadowbrook Medical Care Facility.
George F. Macfarlane, 81
George F. Macfarlane, 81, of Marco Island, Fla., and Boyne City, died
Monday, Sept. 25, 2000, at Northern Michigan Hospital in Petoskey.
George was born Oct. 18, 1918, on Staten Island, N.Y., the son of George
A. and Ann (Winkler) Macfarlane. After high school, he attended Georgia
Tech for three years and then received his engineering degree from New
York University. He completed his career at General Tire in Ionia and
then went on to Creative Industries in Detroit.
Mr. Macfarlane was past exhalted ruler of the Ionia Elks Lodge No. 598
and was editor of the Moose Lodge newsletter on Marco Island. George
was also city council member of Ionia. He was an avid sailor and skier.
Survivors include his wife, Doris, of Boyne City and Marco Island; five
sons, Jeff (Carolee) Macfarlane of Boyne City, Scott (Linda) Macfarlane
of St. Louis, Marshall (Mary) Macfarlane of Linden, Mich., Evan (Cathy)
Macfarlane of Grand Rapids, John (Nancy) Macfarlane of Battle Creek;
10 grandchildren; one sister, June Anderson, of Tucson, Ariz.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Junior
Diabetes Foundation, 120 Wall St., 19th Floor, New York, N.Y. 10005.
Stackus Funeral Home in Boyne City is in charge of arrangements.
William E. Barber, 68
Former Charlevoix resident William E. Barber, 68, of Lake Placid, Fla.,
died Sept. 26, 2000, at North Brower Hospital in Florida.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church
with the Rev. Francis Partridge officiating. Burial will take place in
St. Mary’s Cemetery in Charlevoix.

Wendell S. Smith, 90, of Harbor Springs, died Sept. 27, 2000, at
Northern Michigan Hospital in Petoskey.
